Luke 11:34-36 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.”
Do you remember in Matthew 18:9, when Jesus said, if you eye offends you, pluck it out? Maybe he didn’t mean to blind yourself, but rather to change what you a looking at. What you see creates internal imagery which can bring fear or lust, or it can bring hopes and dreams. We must guard our eyes in this media driven world. The things we read, the graphics we view and the things we watch on TV, computers and smart phones. Some things we call entertainment may show up in our dreams later. Extreme violence, inappropriate content and such like, can do damage to our spirit. This is also true of extremely violent video games. Even an overdose of the news will make you depressed and fearful. We must take time to see God’s beauty around us. Take a walk, explore nature, dream, fill your mind with hope. Get out your family photo albums and reminisce. Don’t just fill your mind with dark images or the lamp of your body will become dark. See the good in life and you will live the good life. Fill your mind with the word of God, hopeful quotes and godly goals. Wake up and open your eyes, don’t be overcome with dark thoughts. It all starts with what you see. All temptation starts with what you see!
